Firm History

The firm commenced on October 17, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan when its founder, Carlyle Michelman, began practicing law. The firm initially practiced in the field of bankruptcy law and has continuously done so to this date. Carlyle Michelman participated in the drafting of the Bankruptcy Act, which amended the Bankruptcy Act of 1898 and actively practiced before the Courts in the east until the early 1960's when the firm moved to the Los Angeles area.

Although Carlyle Michelman had retired from active practice, he was requested by the Bankruptcy Court, Central District of California to sit as appointed Receiver/Trustee in 1961. From and after that date, the firm handled exclusively Receiverships and Trusteeships, appointed by the Superior Court of California, United States District Court and by the Bankruptcy Court.

In 1973, Ronald Michelman joined his father in the firm, as an attorney, and expanded the firms practice to include representation of Trustees, Receivers, Creditors and Debtors.

In 1999, Ryan Michelman joined his father in the firm, as the 3rd generation attorney, and expanded the firms practice to include real estate, business and corporate matters.
